Kottayam: A huge fire broke out in a mattress factory in Viala. The factory was completely burnt down. The incident took place around 12.30 pm on Sunday. As it was a holiday, there were no employees in the factory, so a major disaster was averted.
The fire broke out in a mattress factory called Royal Foam Industries. Seeing the rising fire and smoke, the locals started the first rescue operation. But it was not possible to pour water inside as it was covered with tin sheets. This led to a fire. The scope of the accident increased when the fire spread to products like foam, sponge and rope used for making mattresses. Four units of the fire brigade arrived and extinguished the fire.
