The Russian branch of the international organization Transparency International revealed a threefold difference between the incomes of the average official in the Russian Federation and the average Russian. In 2020, the all-Russian median income of an official obliged to report his income amounted to 82 thousand rubles a month, which is three times higher than the same indicator calculated by Rosstat for the average Russian for the same period (27 thousand rubles), said the Center for Anti-Corruption Research and Transparency International – R (TI-Russia) initiatives on Monday 6 December.

The median value in this case means that 50 percent of people have incomes above this indicator and 50 percent – below this indicator.

The leaders in terms of income are officials of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District, Moscow and Yakutia

Experts found the highest median incomes among officials of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug (241 thousand rubles a month), Moscow (216 thousand) and Yakutia (185 thousand), the lowest – in the Kirov region (52 thousand), Kalmykia (48 thousand) and Northern Ossetia (45 thousand).

At the same time, Tyva, where officials earn 7 times more than the average residents, and Ingushetia (6 times) were the leaders in terms of the income gap. Both republics have the lowest median income of residents in the Russian Federation – 14 thousand rubles. The smallest gap – 2 times – was noted in the Belgorod and Kaluga regions, Krasnodar Territory, Nenets Autonomous District, Adygea, North Ossetia and Tatarstan, the organization further stated.

The study is based on an analysis of nearly 117,000 records of income, property and property liabilities collected from official sources. We are talking exclusively about data for which it was possible to establish regional affiliation, indicated in “TI-Russia”.
