Kottayam ∙ Three persons, including two young women, have been arrested in the case of trying to extort money from a middle-aged man in a honey trap. The accused demanded Rs 50 lakh by threatening to spread the nude picture on social media. Vaikom police arrested Rathimol, a native of Vechur, Ranjini, a native of Onamthuruth, and Dhans, a native of Kumarakam.
The accused tried to extort money by trapping a middle-aged relative of Rathimol in a honey trap. A middle-aged construction worker was called and trapped on the pretext of work. The scenes were also recorded under the leadership of Dhans. Rathimol insisted that Dhans was a policeman and could settle the matter if he paid 50 lakh rupees.
Later, Rathi and Dhans called several times and demanded money and threatened to spread the video on social media if they did not pay. The accused were arrested under the leadership of Vaikom SI Ajmal Hussain on the complaint of a middle-aged man. Similarly, whether the accused have cheated anyone else will be investigated. It is also suspected that there are more people in the group. The accused were produced in court and remanded.
