Thiruvananthapuram – Railways has allowed special services on the occasion of Atukal Pongala. Additional services to Nagercoil and Ernakulam will be run on Tuesday (March 7), the day of Pongal, the railways said.

There will be a special train from Ernakulam to Thiruvananthapuram via Kottayam at 1.45 am on the 7th. There is also a train service from Thiruvananthapuram to Nagercoil at 2.45 pm. At 3.30 pm, special trains will run from Thiruvananthapuram to Ernakulam via Kottayam.

Nagercoil- Kottayam Passenger and Kochuveli- Nagercoil Passenger trains will halt at Thiruvananthapuram for an extended period of time on Pongala day. In addition to additional trains, more coaches and additional stops will be provided to manage congestion. Two additional general coaches have been allotted on Monday and Tuesday for unreserved express.

∙ Pongal should be placed near the transformers only keeping a safe distance. Do not under any circumstances rest or store materials near the perimeter of the transformer station. Care should be taken not to place Pongal under the electricity post. Do not pile garbage under transformers and electricity poles.

∙ Sound and light systems should only be operated using quality wires and switch boards. Electrical lighting shall be carried out by authorized contractors only. Place lights, lanterns, etc. at a height that is out of reach of the general public. Gates, iron pillars, grills and metal boards should also not be used for electric lanterns.

∙ Do not place banners, billboards etc. on electricity posts or related equipment. Do not use wires that have lost insulation, are corroded, worn, or frayed. Decorative items should not be installed on electricity poles. Safety precautions should be strictly followed by Pongala performers and Pongala festival participants.
