A tense atmosphere prevails in the Rajshahi University (Rabi) campus. After 38 hours, light traffic was seen on the Rajshahi-Dhaka road when the students moved away from the protest.

On the surface, there is a tense atmosphere in different parts of the campus since morning. There is no movement of students anywhere. No protest march or movement. Some students sit in front of the library in the morning but later they get up again. Small vehicles including autorickshaws are plying on the highway. Large vehicles like buses and trucks are plying through the Rajshahi bypass road on an alternate route. Additional police have been deployed in front of the main gate of Binodpur and the university. The entire campus is being monitored by the representatives of intelligence agencies.

On Sunday night, the students protested by setting fire to the railway line of the university’s Faculty of Fine Arts. As a result, the rail communication between Rajshahi railway station and all other districts except Chapainawabganj was closed for about four hours. Later, around 2 am, the train movement was normal again.

Meanwhile, 15 students of the university have started hunger strike to death from 8 pm. Later the administration came and talked to them and suspended the hunger strike.

Around 12 noon on that day, a section of angry students blocked the Dhaka-Rajshahi highway by setting fire, bricks and tree stumps. Later in the evening they moved from the main gate of the university and took up position on the railway line adjacent to the fine arts faculty. At this time they burn banners, tires, bird figures (dummies).

Meanwhile, since Saturday evening, the Rajshahi-Dhaka highway was closed for traffic. However, alternative routes are open for traffic. Vehicles coming from Natore are entering the city via Budhpara flyover. And the small vehicles coming towards Katakhali from the direction of the market are turning into full-grown Balurghat.

Earlier on Saturday, a clash broke out between local students and students in Binodpur market over bus fare. In this incident, more than two hundred students are under treatment at Rajshahi Medical College (Ramek) Hospital.
