Half century for Head; Australia take the lead against India

Ahmedabad: Australia took the lead in the second innings of the fourth and final Test against India. In the second innings they were 122 for the loss of one wicket. Aussies now lead by 31 runs.

Opener Travis Head continues to bat with a half-century. Marnus Labuschein is also at the crease. Headed bats on 75 runs and Labuchane 37 runs. Headed attacked the Indian bowlers after lunch with nine fours and two sixes.

Aussies lost night watchman Matthew Kunemann at the start of the fifth day. The star was returned by R Ashwin in front of the wicket.

Australia scored 480 runs in the first innings while India’s reply was 571 runs. Australia started the second innings with a lead of 91 runs.

Earlier, former captain Virat Kohli and opener Shubman Gill’s century and Akshar Patel’s half-century gave India the lead. Kohli scored 186 runs straight off 364 balls. 15 fours came from that bat. Earlier, Shubman Gill also scored a century. Gill scored 128 runs.

All the top batsmen shone for India. Akshar Patel returned with 79 runs. Srikar Bharat (44), Cheteshwar Pujara (42), captain Rohit Sharma (35) and Jadeja (28) also crossed double figures. Tails returned at the invitation. Ashwin returned for seven runs and Umesh Yadav for no runs. Mohammad Shami remained unbeaten for no runs. Akshar Patel scored a half-century with five fours and four sixes.

Kohli scored his 28th Test century in Ahmedabad. The star’s decisive century was 241 balls with five straight fours. Kohli ended a three-year Test century drought.
