A Brazilian Army soldier was shot after reacting to an attempted robbery on the way up the Ataulfo Alves Viaduct, in Benfica, in the north zone of Rio de Janeiro, this Sunday (12).
According to the State Secretariat of Military Police, the victim was driving when he was approached by an armed suspect. When announcing the theft of the car, the man exchanged shots with the military, who was hit by a shot.
He was forwarded by a PM team to the Central Hospital of the Army. During the shooting, a driver was also shot in the abdomen and rescued by SAMU (Mobile Emergency Service) to the Federal Hospital of Bonsucesso.
The case was registered at the 21st Police Station, in Bonsucesso, which will be responsible for the investigation. Until the publication of the report, the suspect remains at large.
Due to the exchange of gunfire and rescues, the viaduct was blocked for about two hours, according to the Rio Operations Center – a city hall facility responsible for monitoring the city.
