In Russia, over the past day, 30,873 cases of coronavirus infection were registered. This is 2.2% more than the day before (30,209). The total number of people infected has reached 9,956,679, the federal COVID-19 operational headquarters said.

- St. Petersburg – 3066 (811 251),
- Moscow region – 2893 (608 638),
- Samara region – 1547 (188 191),
- Voronezh region – 801 (184 477).

Two cases of infection with the new omicron coronavirus strain have been identified in Russia. According to Russian and British doctors, the new variant is more infectious, but less hazardous to health, so it can become a “live vaccine”, displacing the pathogenic strain “delta”. The head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, stated that there is no reliable data that the new strain is less dangerous for humans.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, in 37 developed countries of the world, a total of 28 million years of citizens’ lives were lost. The largest such losses are in Russia, Bulgaria, Latvia, the USA and Poland.
