It has been reported that Rohit Sharma has stipulated to the selectors that he will not be the only T20 captain of the Indian cricket team and will only take over the captaincy of the ODI team. On Wednesday, the BCCI announced that Rohit Sharma would take over as captain of the ODI team.

The BCCI’s statement came as a shock as Kohli announced that he was stepping down as India’s captain in the T20I after the T20 World Cup and would continue to captain India in ODIs and Tests. Kohli was reportedly given 48 hours to step down as captain of the ODI team but was dismissed for failing to comply. Fans have also come out against the BCCI’s move to remove Kohli from the captaincy. It is learned that Rohit Sharma has put such a condition in front of the board to take over the captaincy of the team as the protests against the board are intensifying.

Meanwhile, BCCI President Ganguly said that the appointment of Rohit Sharma as the ODI captain was a joint decision of the board and the selectors and that the selectors did not agree on having two captains in the white ball format.

Kohli was asked not to step down as T20 captain; Ganguly with revelation

The BCCI has come under fire after replacing Virat Kohli with Rohit Sharma as captain of the Indian ODI team. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has now made a crucial revelation in the incident.

Ganguly said the BCCI had asked Kohli not to relinquish the T20 captaincy. ‘We had requested Kohli not to step down as T20 captain. We had no plans to change the captain. But things changed when Kohli stepped down as T20 captain, ”said Ganguly.

‘In limited overs cricket, the selectors did not agree with the practice of having two captains in both formats. The selectors are of the view that the T20 captaincy and the ODI captaincy should not be separated. That is how things went to remove Kohli from the ODI captaincy, ”said Sourav Ganguly.
