KYIV. March 24. UNN. Ukrainians who illegally cross the border are returned to Ukraine, they cannot have refugee status. Andrii Demchenko, the spokesman of the State Border Service, said this on the air of the national telethon, the correspondent reports. UNN.

“We actively cooperate with our colleagues from European countries, as well as with Moldova, in order to jointly oppose any attempts to cross the border illegally. (…) Of course, some are trying to immediately request refugee status, but I would like to point out that this is not a reason for Ukrainian citizens, such violators, to be considered as refugees in EU countries,” said Demchenko.

He urged those who organize illegal trips to refrain from doing so.

Demchenko focused on the case when a 23-year-old man from Bukovyna drowned while trying to illegally cross the border into Romania. According to the spokesperson of the State Security Service, “if this man had even gotten to Romania, had not died, then he would have been returned to the territory of Ukraine, and he would have been brought to justice.”
