Joy and distribution of sweets in Sarishabari on the news of UNO transfer

Jamalpur’s Sarishabari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Upma Farisa was transferred with joy and happiness and distributed sweets by the local people.

On Wednesday (April 5) till 11 pm, under the banner of ‘Sarishabari Citizens Committee’, these sweets were distributed at the intersection of Municipal Truck Association, various shops of Aramnagar Bazar.

Mosharof Hossain (Tanjit), organizing secretary. Badiuzzaman Bachchu, Aramnagar Kamil Madrasa President Ruman Miah and General Secretary Mosharraf Hossain etc.

Earlier on January 21, thousands of people held a sweep march in front of the municipality under the banner of the civic committee after the human chain and protest rally. They demanded the removal of UNO.

Zahurul Islam, the former councilor of Sarishabari municipality said that Upma Farisa had been dealing with various irregularities, abuse of power and open bribery in the government allocation of TR, GR, Kabikha, ADP, LGSP, upazila parishads since she joined Sarishabari on August 29, 2021. On the morning of April 16 last year, he deliberately set fire to the office of UNO to destroy the evidence of corruption. Later, the incident was revealed as an electrical short circuit through the investigation committee.

The former councilor also said that in order to hide the information of irregularities, the theft was done at the upazila land office and the neighboring Kamrabad union land office on the night of December 18 last year. In this incident, a general diary has been made at the police station, but no clue has been revealed yet. Besides, recently UNO helped to buy the most profitable Gopalganj cattle market of Pinna Union of the upazila for only 88 lakh taka. Last year this market was worth two hundred and twenty crore rupees.

Meanwhile, a local journalist named Masudur Rahman filed a written complaint with the Ministry of Public Administration on March 22 highlighting various irregularities.

He said that no information is provided despite applying in the prescribed form under the Right to Information Act. When someone applies for information, that information reaches the political leader concerned with the project. Local journalists were harassed.

Upma Farisa was ordered transferred in a notification signed by Public Administration Ministry Deputy Secretary Bhaskar Debnath Bappi on Wednesday (April 5). He has been assigned to Khulna Division.
