From Monday: Spain, France and the Emirates will be declared red

The Ministry of Health today (Wednesday) recommended the government to declare Ireland, Norway, Spain, Finland, France, Sweden and the United Arab Emirates as red countries. The decision will take effect on December 19 (the night between Sunday and Monday) at midnight, subject to the approval of the Government and the Knesset’s Constitution Committee.

Criteria for classifying countries as red (one of which must be met):

  • State report of 10% prevalence of omicron based on flooring or SGTF
  • The Omicron rate among incoming passengers is more than 5 verified Omicron per 10,000 incoming passengers, and the total Omicron rate of the verified passengers from this country is higher than 10%.
  • Strong geographical connection to countries with an incidence of over 10%.

The countries announced today will join the following red states:

Uganda, Seychelles, Angola, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Aswatini, Botswana, Burundi, Burkina Faso, Benin, United Kingdom, Ghana, Gabon, Djibouti, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Gambia, Denmark, South Africa, South Sudan, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Central African Republic, Republic of the Congo (Congo Brasville), Zimbabwe, Zambia, Côte d’Ivoire, Togo, Tanzania, Liberia, Lesotho, Mauritania, Mauritius, Mali, Madagascar, Mozambique, Niger, Malawi, Malawi Namibia, Sao Tome and Principe, Somalia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Saint Helena (UK), Chad, Comoros, Cape Verde, Kenya, Cameroon, Reunion (France), Rwanda.
