Artificial intelligence is again at the heart of a controversy. This time, the world of photography is in turmoil after the revelation that an award-winning shot at the Sony World Photography Awards had been generated by an AI. The German artist Boris Eldagsen explains that he wanted to provoke debate.

And for good reason: the 53-year-old German artist did not take this photo. The image was generated by an artificial intelligence.

Boris Eldagsen finally declined his award. He claims to have just wanted to open the dialogue on the future of photography, and mark history to accelerate awareness. For its part, the World Photography Organization considers any discussion with the artist impossible. But specifies that the creative category in which this controversial shot competed precisely allows all audacity.
