Jatiya Sangsad Deputy Speaker Advocate Shamsul Haque Tuku said that there is no alternative to promoting sports and cultural practices to protect the youth from drugs and to develop them as functional human resources. All kinds of sports competitions should be spread all over the country to build the smart Bangladesh of the future. No matter how talented the youth, no nation can move forward if they are not healthy and functional.
He said this while addressing the chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony of the final competition of ‘Santhia Paur Mayor T-20 Cup-2023’ on the theme of ‘Madakke na boli, Santhia Gari of tomorrow’ on Wednesday (April 26). Santhia Municipality of Pabna organizes this competition.
The Deputy Speaker said that Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman emphasized on sports and cultural practices even in war-torn Bangladesh. Under the leadership of his daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh is showing brilliant skills in the field of sports. To achieve greater success in all types of sports including cricket, such tournaments must be organized at all levels across the country.
He also said that the youth will stay away from drugs, stay away from smoking. Every sport should be popularized and I believe Santhya will do well in every competition.
In the final of the tournament, Shishu Bagan defeated Sporting Club and became the champion of Friend Star Club. At the end of the match, Shamsul Haque Tuku presented trophies, cash and memento to each player to the captains of the champion and runner-up teams.
During the presentation of Municipal Mayor Mahbubul Alam Bachchu, Santhia Awami League President Hasan Ali Khan, Vice Chairman Sohel Rana Khokon and Selima Sultana Shila, Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md. Moniruzzaman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Santhia Police Station, local elected representatives, local dignitaries and media persons were present.
