The general secretary of Comisiones Obreras, Unai Sordo, guaranteed this Friday that there will be a scenario of conflict in the coming months if the CEOE commits “the temerity” of waiting for a change in the political cycle and avoiding during this time an “adequate” distribution of the salaries. A clear notice of conflict addressed to the president of the employers’ association, Antonio Garamendi, at the gates of the protest mobilizations that will take place throughout the country on the occasion of May Day, International Workers’ Day.

In an act organized by the Communist Party of Spain, Sordo warned that if there is no wage agreement, the unions must put “all the meat on the grill” and bet on a scenario of mobility or strikes that come ” as far as they have to go.”

“Does the CEOE really want to address this scenario with a risk of conflict in Spain?” asked the head of the Workers’ Commissions. “It is an irresponsible policy. There must be a distribution of wealth through wages, businessmen cannot appropriate the resources they have”, he added.

“Perplexed” with SMEs and freelancers

During his speech, Sordo also stated that he is “perplexed” by the “belligerence” that, in his opinion, the representatives of SMEs and the self-employed in employers have shown before the creation of an observatory of business margins.

In this sense, he pointed out that it should be both self-employed and small businessmen who should be “crying out” for this observatory. Also for the creation of an index that records how companies are doing in economic terms, in order to advance from there in collective bargaining.

For her part, the Second Vice President and Minister of Labor, Yolanda Díaz, also supported this Friday in the same act of the PCE the demand for a salary increase maintained by the CCOO and UGT, including better remuneration for public officials. In this sense, she called it “indignity” that large corporations do not improve the salaries of their staff despite registering “gross profits”, with business margins that “have multiplied up to seven times.”

He also defended the need to apply an in-depth tax reform that ends the “tax privileges” of the country, since it is not satisfied with having temporary and “light” taxes on large incomes and assets; as well as address a reduction in working hours.
