► Go back in time in the tagged Paris of the 1960s

The capital’s town hall offers total immersion in the heart of Parisian street art, from its sulphurous beginnings in the 1960s to the present day. As soon as they enter the Saint Jean room, visitors are captivated by the dazzling colors of the graffiti on the white walls. Produced by some of the 70 street artists represented, the drawings brilliantly illustrate the evolution of the styles of this urban art, which has won its letters of nobility.

The route introduces us to the pioneers of the movement, at the time of wild graffiti on the metro and in the catacombs. Then, accompanied by videos and hip-hop sounds, the exhibition highlights the works of renowned artists, such as Banksy, JonOne, Miss. Tic, André, Swoon or Invader. The visit ends with an augmented reality game on the phone, testifying to the new digital trend in street art. A nice trip, to admire street drawings from a different perspective.

Exposition Capital(s) at the Paris City Hall, 5 rue de Lobau, until June 3, 2023. Free exhibition but reservation required on www.paris.fr/evenements.

► Follow in the footsteps of feminist street-art

Where are the women in street-art? Just about everywhere, provided you pay attention to them, and particularly in the Butte-aux-Cailles district, in the 13e district of Paris. It is in this “village-like” neighborhood that the cultural visits group Feminists in the city strives to highlight the work of women street artists. Because, if it often denounces inequalities and frees itself from codes, street art does not escape male hegemony.

During the two-hour walk, the guides give explanations on this imbalance, such as the fact that the collective imagination associates this transgressive art with “bad-boys”, or the relationship of women to the public space, which they cross more than they invest – on average, only 6% of streets in France bear the names of women in 2022. The luckiest visitors will even be able to see artists invite themselves on the ride and attend a live collage or graffiti .

Reservation on www.feministsinthecity.com/paris, €19 reduced price, €23 full price, 2 hour visit.

► Graffiti the walls of the pink city

Meet in Toulouse, at the Castelet of the former Saint-Michel prison, to slip into the shoes of a street artist for a two-hour workshop. By taking care to dress in an outfit that does not shy away from stains, budding designers will be able to experiment with the stencil technique, in the style of the artist C215. The latter produced a series of portraits of people linked to the history of the prison world for the exhibition Periscopein connection with the manual workshops.

We see Toulouse resistance fighters who stayed within the walls of the former prison, but also committed personalities of universal stature who were confronted with incarceration, such as Nelson Mandela or Simone de Beauvoir. The visit continues through the streets of the pink city, where C215 has also been invited to exhibit its art, such as elegant portraits on walls, street furniture and mailboxes.

Stencil workshops every Sunday until September 10, from 12 years old, €5, reservations on the Castelet website. The exhibition Periscope is free.
