Marion Escoda has presented his new record in Girona this Sunday night as part of the Strenes festival. He did it in the Auditorium in front of a family audience that almost sold out all the tickets. It is the third stop of the tour that the winner of the first edition of Eufòria is doing to present her new album: ‘D una atra mode’ (Música Global, 2023). Escoda explains that he chose to call it that because it’s how he does things after his time in Euphoria: “My life is very different because before I didn’t have the resources I have now.” The concert in Girona mixed songs from the new album with those from the EP and versions from his time with Eufòria. “These are the stages I’ve gone through these last few years.”

The album that the artist from Valls presented this Sunday in Girona revolves around three thematic axes: self-knowledge and empowerment, aspects that the singer says she is “prioritizing” in recent years. “I prioritized getting to know myself and empowering myself because we women have to do it, even if it costs a lot.” The album also talks about healthy and free love, which the artist defines as that which “doesn’t clip its wings” and which he says is “lucky to be alive”.

The ten songs of this work, which has co-written with other artists (Àlex Pérez, Manu Guix, Roger Rodés, Alicia Rey and Adrià Salas), performed them for the first time in concert last April 16 at the Paral·lel 62 hall in Barcelona, at the presentation of the new album. And the second stop of this tour was at the Fortuny theater in Reus on April 21. The third presentation concert, the one at the Girona Auditorium, started promptly at nine o’clock in the evening in front of a especially familiar audience and still with some location available from the more than a thousand that were for sale.

Concert that goes through the stages

The concert, as revealed by the artist, has been conceived as “a reflection of the stages experienced in recent years”. Mariona Escoda performed there songs from the new albumbut also some of the EP and versions he did at the time on the talent show broadcast by TV3, euphoria. “We wanted people to have a good time and for it to be a dynamic concert with moments of jumping and dancing, but also moments of turning on the lanterns and crying a little,” says the singer. The truth is that the public gave themselves up and gave him a standing ovation at several times.

The staging was dynamic and Escoda played a string of songs in different styles, just as he embodied in the new album. “In Eufòria I discovered many things about myself that I didn’t know and this is reflected in the album, because there is much more desire to experiment and to adapt to other styles”, details the singer from Valls, who adds that she differs of the first EP he made (‘As it should be’) because “here each song has its own identity”.

More opportunities

The winner of the first edition of Eufória has contract with Global Music, the production company that brings other Catalan artists such as Doctor Prats, Miki Núñez, les Amics de les Arts or Judit Nedderman. A contract he says has “opened many doors” for him. “It’s very different to go out on your own, than to have behind you a professional team with a lot of experience in the sector, as is the case”, he says, while asserting that thanks to being with Música Global, “many more opportunities” have come to him.

Opportunities that have also appeared and in the first instance thanks to his participation in the program Eufória on TV3. “It has given me a visibility that I didn’t expect and that I don’t know if I wanted,” he reflects and says that “it’s very difficult to assimilate because there are many things that I had dreamed of and didn’t think would happen.” Mariona Escoda started giving piano and voice concerts nine years ago and in the last few months she has been awarded with several recognitions, among which the breakthrough artist award from the Enderrock Awards 2023 stands out. In addition, the album ‘D’una autre mode ‘ he created it while exploring another side of his career: playing the role of Rose in the musical ‘Petit Princep’. The tour of the new album continues on Saturday 6 May with a concert at Auditori Pau Casals del Vendrell.
