Vadakara ∙ The fire does not end even after removing the files. The work of removing files lying in the fire and submerged in water from the burning taluk office was not completed yesterday either. All that remains is to retrieve the files from the old prison cell where the records are kept. About 90 percent of the records kept in the office have been lost.

The rest are lying on the floor. Efforts to remove the remaining files began yesterday morning after smoke rose again from the ashes on Sunday. If these are not removed, the fire may spread again. Following this, the fire brigade, led by the Civil Defense and the Uralungal Society employees started moving the documents. The files are being extracted under the supervision of the revenue authorities.

It is also planned to seek the help of NCC cadets from the next day. Many of the documents are in a state of complete disrepair with knives and dust. The essentials should be extracted from these. The files are kept in a shed in the office premises. Due to this, there is a strong police guard at night.

Dispute over who will lock; Mini civil station with no locks

Vadakara ∙ Mini Civil Station and Education-Land Acquisition Office were not closed regularly due to a dispute over who would lock them. At the Civil Station, only the Employment Exchange and the VHSE office have night guards. They do not lock the grill as they have no overall responsibility for the civil station. Because of this, the civil station was in a state where anyone could always get on. The Education-Land Acquisition Office, which operates on the 2nd floor, initially did not have a grill.

The grill was set up by a collector led by ‘Pura’, a group of government employees. At first, the barnkeepers locked the grill. Later, many of the incumbents moved or retired, leaving no one locked. Theft of pipes was also common. Following the fire of the previous day, grills began to be lit everywhere. Responsibility for this was given to each office.
