Home Minister mourns the death of actor Farooq

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has expressed deep grief over the death of strong actor of Bengali films, freedom fighter Akbar Hossain Pathan Farooq, Member of Parliament of Dhaka-17 Constituency.

Monday (May 15) morning after the news of Farooq’s death, the senior information officer of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Sharif Mahmud Apu said that in the condolence message, the Home Minister sought forgiveness for the departed soul. Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal also expressed deep condolences to his bereaved family members.

Akbar Hossain Pathan (Farooq), a famous hero of Bengali film Mia Bhai, a brave freedom fighter and a member of parliament from Dhaka-17 (Gulshan-Banani) constituency, died while undergoing treatment in Singapore. Confirming the death, his son Sarat said, ‘Father passed away today at 8:30 am. Pray for my father.’

Farooq was suffering from kidney disease for a long time. He was under treatment in a hospital in Singapore for almost two years.

Farooq entered the world of cinema through the film ‘Jalchhabi’ directed by H Akbar. The actor won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1975 for his performance. Received Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016 in recognition of outstanding contribution to the film industry.
