WHO: Sweeteners increase risk of stroke by 19 percent

Experts from the World Health Organization have concluded that artificial sweeteners do not help you lose weight in the long term and can harm the body.

From WHO report it follows that the frequent use of sweeteners is associated with an increased risk of type 2 diabetes by 23-34 percent, and the risk of cardiovascular disease by 32 percent (including stroke by 19 percent).

The organization recommended replacing artificial sweeteners with fruit. This advice does not apply to those who have experienced diabetes.

The authors of the report said that the recommendations are “conditional” and “subject to adjustment depending on the circumstances” because not all factors may have been taken into account in the 283 studies on which advice is given.
