The third edition of F’Estiu de Calonge is already underway, with a line-up that once again combines genres and styles to offer a local menu for all audiences. The Friends of the Arts, Elena Gadel, Marc Timón and Manu Guix will be some of the main headliners of an edition that had its first taste yesterday, at the Castle of Calonge, with the performance of the Mèlt Quartet. The event served to reveal the summer program, which proposes six concerts between August 10 and 19.

This year the F’Estiu reaches its third edition fully consolidated as a very close festival for the public. It seeks to project popular music with performers from our home and to support and promote new shows preferentially. All this in a municipality, Calonge, with a great musical tradition fostered by the large number of instrumentalists and composers in the town such as Ricard Viladesau, Enric Vilà, Adrià Sardó or currently Antoni Ros Marbà. The 2023 lineup includes Catalan pop, sardines, original songs and jazz, offering an intimate format, with performances in an emblematic space such as Calonge Castle.

The legendary trumpet player and director of La Locomotora Negra, Ricard Gili, will do a jazz session on August 10

The presentation of all this took place yesterday in the framework of Doremifa’n Flors, música i flors, with the performance of Quartet Mèlt, a young vocal group formed in 2012 by four singers from different parts of Catalonia united by the world of Catalan choral singing. The next performance will not be until Thursday, August 10. On that day, the legendary trumpeter and director of Locomotora Negra, Ricard Gili, will offer a Jazz Session alongside some of the best musicians of this genre in Catalonia. The repertoire includes blues, spirituals and jazz from the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s from New Orleans, Chicago and New York, as well as some of their own. The next day will be the turn of Cobla Sant Jordi + Cobla La Principal del Llobregat. The sardanas, as in previous editions, cannot be missing from the program either. On Saturday August 12 it will be the turn of Gio Symphonia, a musical journey through the history of cinema, a concert with tailor-made arrangements and for chamber music with the best soundtracks, by the hand of the director and arranger of the show, Marc Timón.

The concerts will resume on Thursday, August 17 with Els Amics de les Arts, who will present the new album Allà on volia (Pistatxo Records, 2023). The following day, Friday, August 18, Elena Gadel will take to the stage in the gardens of the Castle, who after years of recording silence, presents new songs. The exhibition will close with Manu Guix on Saturday, August 19.
