Gert-Jan, a Dutch national who suffered a spinal cord injury a decade ago after a bicycle accident, has managed to restore natural control to his paralyzed legs thanks to a wireless interface implanted in his brain and spinal cord. He is the achievement of the team of neuroscientist Grégoire Courtine, from the Federal Polytechnic School of Lausanne (EPFL), and neurosurgeon Jocelyne Blochfrom the EPFL Vaud University Hospital Center in Switzerland.
