The few drops of rain that came to refresh the boiling weather of Clairefontaine did not spoil the end of the day. In front of more than 300 supporters, the Blues took the path of training, this Saturday afternoon, for a rhythmic session. After a good thirty minutes signing autographs, the whole group took part in the session with the exception of Alphonse Areola. The recent Conference League winner with West Ham is expected to join the team on Monday.

With the applause meter as often, it was Kylian Mbappé who had the favor of the young people, but Olivier Giroud, Marcus Thuram, Adrien Rabiot were also able to count on the encouragement fed by the public at the start of the split exercise which launched training. “Accelerate Kylian”, “after the plot we go to fifteen”. Responding to the instructions of the physical trainer Cyril Moine, the tricolor players split into two groups put aside the smiles to display a more serious tone and a few grimaces.

The rest of the training was intended to be calmer. After stretching in a circle, the vice-world champions were invited to touch the ball for passing circuits, a bit of juggling, long play and toros. No physical glitches to report. Five days before facing Gibraltar, in Faro (Portugal), for the qualifiers for the Euro, the men of Didier Deschamps approach the rally with a full group.

A double for Mbappé

The coach had planned to conclude the first collective training session with a small half-court opposition of two 15-minute sessions. The team without chasubles won 3-2 with Kylian Mbappé in good shape, Ousmane Dembélé, Randal Kolo Muani, but also Antoine Griezmann, Adrien Rabiot… and Jordan Veretout in midfield. Kolo Muani and Mbappé, twice, scored their team’s three goals. Thuram and Giroud, from the penalty spot, scored for the opposing team.

The players and staff have planned to watch the Champions League final between Inter Milan and Manchester City all together this Saturday evening. Benoît Badiashile, recovering at Clairefontaine, will watch the match with the Espoirs in the evening.
