Currently there is a greater possibility that patients suffering from cancers or other diseases for which there is no specific treatment can access a clinical trial. Two Cordovan beneficiaries of two essays are David Capote and Soledad Romero.

David, 40 years oldit is participating in a clinical trial of Radiation Oncology and Neurosurgery of the Reina Sofia university hospitalinside of the Imbic. «I have been in the rehearsal for barely two weeks. The medication that is part of this trial are sachets, which I take three times a day”, explains this patient.

David, who wanted to collaborate from the outset with the Reina Sofía and the Imibic when the specialist in Radiation Oncology Sonia García, suffered for months very strong and frequent headaches, who did not remit with paracetamol or other drugs. In a CT scan that was done at the Reina Sofía, a small inflammation and fluid in the brain was discovered. «In a resonance It is appreciated that I have a tumor mass and that it is necessary to operate to reduce it. I did not expect news like this because I have always been a person who has more or less followed a healthy diet, without smoking or drinking and I have done a lot of sports, going out for a run almost every day between 10 and 15 kilometers. Everything has gone very fast, from a headache to having to receive chemotherapy, radiotherapy… However, I feel positive because right now I feel strong, “says this Cordovan.

Support and affection of the professionals who care for them

David would like to thank the care he receives from all the professionals at the hospital and at Imibic who care for him when he goes for treatment, since they have also helped him to lose his fear. Demand that more funds be allocated to public health and research so that there are more treatment options for so many people with diseases without a cure.

Soledad Romero is a patient at the Reina Sofía hospital and is part of an Imibic clinical trial.

More spending on health

Equally an advocate of greater investment in research and health is Soledad, 51, who has been facing breast cancer for five years. The evolution of this Cordovan woman’s disease was favourable, after undergoing a mastectomy and a lymph node evacuation, but 5 years after starting to face breast cancer, a metastasis has appeared in the liver and bones. Soledad, who has always collaborated with the Reina Sofía and the Imibic, is currently benefiting from a second clinical trialconsisting of a more personalized treatment, based on pills.

“We are like a family”

«On the part of the professionals of the Reina Sofía and the Imibic we are highly regarded. We are like a family, between the team of doctors, nurses and assistants, because the contact is very close. I have become part of this second clinical trial due to the characteristics of my disease and its evolution, due to having relapsed, due to my age, among other factors”, he recounts.

“I think that It is important that patients collaborate in clinical trials, not only for our own improvement, but to help people who will suffer from these same diseases in the future. In the five years that I have been with cancer, I have been able to appreciate what progress has been made in new treatments and everything that is being worked on, but much more needs to be done, “he emphasizes. “We are lucky that the Reina Sofía and the Imibic participate in numerous studies at a national and international level,” emphasizes Soledad Romero.
