The Caterina Roma de Púbol Studio House exposes for the first time to the public the textile designs by Japanese artist Mako Artigas. With the Mako Artigas exhibition. Born in Japan in 1937, Mako Artigas is one internationally renowned artistbut little known to the general public, which established itself in the country in 1960. Her passion for art and dedication to textile design made her an influential figure in the world of fashion, following the family tradition of the Artigas line of artists, with whom she was related – and related, with her marriage to the sculptor and ceramist Joan Gardy Artigas – since her arrival in Catalonia.

During the seventies and eighties, Mako Artigas worked in Paris for a major French fashion firms such as Paco Rabanne, Nina Ricci and André Courrèges, who used his designs for years.

Púbol’s exhibition shows twenty of his textile design works on Japanese paper, in dialogue with Caterina Roma’s ceramics, offering a vision of his artistic career and his imprint on fashion over time.

Most of the exhibited pieces are drawings in gouachecolor inks and watercolors, but there will also be a projection with photographs of the artist and his works.

The exhibition, which opens today with the presence of 86-year-old Artigas, can be visited until July 16.
