Roskosmos showed a new rocket engine RD-171MV for Soyuz-5
Roskosmos reported that NPO Energomash produced the first RD-171MV flight engine – the most powerful in the world – for the Soyuz-5 launch vehicle.
In June, Energomash, which is part of the Roscosmos state corporation, completed the production of the RD-171MV liquid-propellant rocket engine. It was created for the first flight tests of the new Soyuz-5 launch vehicle.
This year, it is also planned to complete the assembly of the RD-171MV for the second Soyuz-5 flight rocket and the engine for the third flight rocket.
Interdepartmental tests of the RD-171MV and their serial delivery for Soyuz-5 will be the next stage.
As reported, the RD-171MV is a liquid-propellant rocket engine that will form the basis of the Soyuz-5 rocket. Engine thrust should exceed 800 tons, which will be the most powerful indicator in the world.
The Soyuz-5 two-stage launch vehicle is being created as part of the Phoenix R&D project on the RD-171MV engine. It will start from Baikonur as part of a joint project with Kazakhstan.
