The ministers of Bulgaria, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and Romania will hold a meeting with their Ukrainian counterpart in July
We support Ukraine, but it is necessary to protect our producers, including through decisions on the sale of Ukrainian products on markets in third countries. This was said by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Kiril Vatev meeting with the ministers of Agriculture of Poland Robert Tellus, of Hungary Istvan Nagy, of Slovakia, Josef Bires and Achim Irimescu, Head of the Agriculture and Fisheries Section at the Permanent Representation of Romania to the EU, held within the second day of the EU Council meeting on agriculture and fisheries in Luxembourg.
Meeting with Wojciechowski
He pointed out that in the future the member countries will have to consider the import of agricultural products from Ukraine. “Instead of the partial measures so far, it is time to look for a comprehensive solution that includes markets to third countries and benefits both Ukraine and EU farmers,” stressed Minister Vatev.
“Bulgarian farmers received support, but it is symbolic. For the first time, grain producers welcome the new harvest with full warehouses. But the problem in Bulgaria is not only with cereals, but also with producers of milk, honey, unrefined vegetable oil. There is huge tension because of the import of dry and condensed milk from Ukraine. The import of unrefined vegetable oil hinders the realization of sunflower in our country”, added the Bulgarian Minister of Agriculture and Food.
The ministers agreed to hold a joint meeting with the Ukrainian Minister of Agriculture in Warsaw next month.
Within the framework of the EU Council on Agriculture and Fisheries, Minister Vatev also met with the European Commissioner for Agriculture, Janusz Wojciechovski, and personally informed him of Bulgaria’s problems related to the import of dry milk, unrefined vegetable oil and honey from Ukraine, which do not meet the the strict requirements for production in the European Union.
