Palafrugell artist Eduard Bigas rereads the Planian view of Europe a century ago in a modern key with an exhibition at the headquarters of the Josep Pla Foundation. Named as European resonances: Eduard Bigas evokes Josep Plathe sample collects until January 4 un series of Bigas pieces inspired by the reading of Josep Pla’s work and created specifically for this exhibitionwhich is part of an initiative coordinated by Bonart to honor the artist in his hometown, programming several exhibitions to showcase the diversity of his work.

Palafrugell will dedicate four exhibitions to Eduard Bigas

A century ago now, as a correspondent in Berlin for the newspaper La Publicitat, Josep Pla told the Catalan reader how the European scene looked after the world war. Runaway inflation, tension and the rise of populism that would end up leading to the arrival of fascism they are present in the chronicles that the author of The Gray Notebook wrote from Germany, but also in his stays in France, Italy, the United Kingdom or Russia.

Similarities a hundred years later

A century later, the painter and draftsman Eduard Bigas, another Palafrugell resident settled in Berlin who, like Pla, has traveled throughout much of Europe without ever abandoning ties with his country, contemplates the European scene, inevitably finding points in common with what the writer was describing in 1923.

From Palafrugell, where Pla i Bigas have their roots, the exhibition begins a journey through several European territories. London, Russia, Berlin they are the places chosen by Bigas to evoke, through his own experience and impressions, the work of Pla, who worked as a correspondent there and wrote some of his works there.

Establishing a dialogue between plastic arts and literature, Bigas is inspired by the reality reflected by Pla’s words to project his view on the present in pieces that invite reread the history of a century ago with a current perspective.
