Scientists: 7 thousand tons of space debris accumulated in Earth’s orbit

Igor Bakaras, head of the information and analytical center of TsNIIMash JSC, told reporters that several thousand tons of space debris had accumulated in the Earth’s orbits.

“There are seven thousand tons of debris in the Earth’s orbits, that is, objects that do not function and do not serve useful purposes,” the specialist said.

He also added that, in addition to debris, there are about three thousand tons of operated vehicles in orbit, including the ISS.
