New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said that the GST hike on shoes will not be reconsidered. At the same time, the Cabinet will review the GST rates on textiles. He will join the next GST Council in late February or early March.

The GST hike on textiles was postponed following opposition from the states. The GST Council has now rejected the tax hike. It was decided to impose a 12 per cent tax on textiles and shoes up to Rs 1,000.

However, the withdrawal came after strong opposition from Gujarat, Bengal, Delhi, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.
