When the dream of a house turns into a nightmare…
Enger (NRW) – Jürgen Erdmann (46) and Olga Lincoln (38) from Enger (Herford district) are desperate. The couple lives with their two small sons in a ruined building. “If we don’t get any help, we’re threatened with total loss and bankruptcy!” Say the cook and the driver.
Shoddy construction ruined the family! Friends have now started a fundraiser for the rescue on the crowdfunding platform “GoFundMe”. They hope for 150,000 euros.
In 2021, Jürgen Erdmann and Olga Lincoln decided to buy their own home. “We wanted to get out of the dilapidated rented apartment,” says the wife. They bought a piece of land (532 square meters) for 150,000 euros.
A tempting offer was quickly found: a timber-frame house with five rooms and ample storage space in the attic. Price: 200,000 euros. Everything is fully insulated and energy efficient – a bargain that the bank was happy to finance.
Construction work started in September 2021. From spring 2022 there were delays.

First the roof tiles were not delivered, then the insulation of the base failed. Already promised craftsmen did not show up. The client: “The contractor always provided plausible explanations. We trusted him and continue to pay the bills including the final installment.”
A devastating mistake! In September 2022, the contractor filed for bankruptcy. Consequence: The family now lives on a construction site. Money for finishing the house isn’t present.

An expert now listed around 60 deficiencies that would cost 150,000 euros to rectify. From the list: roof tiles and exterior plaster are completely missing. The base is not insulated. The sewer has no gradient. The decalcification system is missing. The underfloor heating is incorrectly switched and does not work properly. Interior doors and frames are missing. And and and …
Jürgen Erdmann: “We know that some of our building materials were used in the entrepreneur’s other projects.”

The entrepreneur did not respond to the couple’s inquiries and filed a complaint for defamation. Olga Lincoln: “We know that seven other builders are affected.” Corinna Kodim, spokeswoman for “Haus und Grund”: “Insolvencies of property developers happen again and again. As a builder, you should never pay bills if the previous work has not yet been fully completed.”
The fate of the family is not isolated. Many construction companies have been in trouble since 2022, mainly due to the explosion in prices for building materials. Agreed prices often could not be kept. Bankruptcies followed. The builders have to pay for it.
The couple from Enger have filed a lawsuit against the contractor at the Bielefeld District Court: “We have to grasp at every straw.” They also hope for support from the Fundraiser.
