Iran’s spiritual leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, spoke on the two – year anniversary of the assassination of Quds Force commander Quds Force Suleimani and boasted that the United States was in retreat from the Middle East.
“Our enemies thought that with the assassination of Suleimani the job was done. But today, thanks to the shed blood of the saints, the resistance is thriving and full of hope more than ever. The United States withdrew from Afghanistan, reduced its presence in Iraq thanks to the vigilance of our brothers For the future, “Khamenei said in a speech broadcast on state television.
“Commander Suleimani was a symbol imprinted in the reality of our region. His assassins, like President Trump and his associates, will be assigned and forgotten, thrown into the dustbin of history, having paid for their crimes,” the spiritual leader said.
Qassem Suleimani was killed in January 2020 by a U.S. drone while traveling at Baghdad International Airport. Its elimination was a severe blow to Iran’s prestige. The assassination ignited a wave of outrageous protests across the Shiite world and especially in Iran, but also celebrations by dissidents in Tehran, who saw Suleimani as responsible for the repression of the Revolutionary Guards.
Suleimani was weak in a network of pro-Iranian militias from Lebanon to Afghanistan and used to visit the front lines alongside Quds Force officers, which built around him an aura of a commander willing to sacrifice his life. He was called by his soldiers the “living martyr”, and was among those responsible for building the power of the terrorist organization Hezbollah, as well as for building the pro-Iranian militia array in the Syrian area.
