A group of scientists managed to “revive” microscopic nematode worms

A group of scientists, including Russian specialists, managed to “revive” microscopic nematode worms. They, according to scientific data, spent 46 thousand years in the permafrost in Siberia. Sensational research results published on the PLOS Genetics website.

The worms once entered a state of cryptobiosis, believed to be due to extreme cold temperatures. Previously, scientists thought that in a similar state, the body of worms is able to spend a not so large-scale period.

Artificially “animated” nematodes lived less than a month. But during this period, more than 100 new generations were born, scientists testify.
