Nature Aging: scientists in the US found that accelerated aging is due to impaired immune cells
Specialists from the Medical School of the University of Virginia in the USA have found an important reason for the acceleration of human aging. Controlling chronic inflammation can lead to a longer, healthier life, according to a study published in the journal Nature Aging.
In the course of their research work, American specialists have established that chronic inflammation, characteristic of the elderly and responsible for the development of many age-related diseases, is caused by improper calcium signaling in the mitochondria of certain immune cells, namely macrophages.
The researchers hypothesized that increasing calcium intake by macrophages could prevent inflammation and its detrimental effects. Due to the fact that macrophages are found in all organs of the human body, including the brain, exposure to drugs, according to scientists, can help slow the development of age-related neurodegenerative diseases.
