Member of the Federation Council Artem Sheikin sent a letter to Roskomnadzor and the Prosecutor General’s Office with a request to check the Eye of God service and, if necessary, block it. About it informed TASS with reference to Sheikin’s appeals addressed to the head of Roskomnadzor Andrey Lipov and to the Prosecutor General of Russia Igor Krasnov.

The author of the appeal stated that he had big questions about “facts of fraud using biometric data and artificial intelligence mechanisms.” “One of the services that is widely used in Russia is Eye of God, which provides a service that allows you to record a telephone conversation for a fee,” he said.

According to Sheikin, such services may violate Russian legislation in the field of personal data, since voice recording takes place without notifying citizens. He noted that attackers can use this for their own purposes.

The “Eye of God” was launched in Telegram at the beginning of 2020. Vedomosti wrote that using a special Telegram bot, it searches open data for a person’s contacts, his pages on social networks, information about a car, etc. The bot aggregates information into mode “on the go”, i.e. “without saving all the information received from data banks.”

Roskomnadzor has already demanded that Telegram block the Eye of God, after which the messenger deleted several channels that were collecting information. Among them was the Eye of God, but a few days later a company representative said that the service took into account the requirements of the law and made changes to the format of its work. On July 1, 2021, the court declared the activities of the Eye of God Telegram bot illegal in connection with the violation of the rights of citizens to privacy.
