Xian, a major tourist city in China, has been severely restricted due to increasing corona vulnerabilities. These restrictions have sparked criticism of the Chinese government on websites.

The people of the northwestern city of Xi’an in China can say that the start of this year has been much worse than the others. The situation there is much worse than in 2020, when corona damage began to occur. The corona virus is currently spreading faster in Xi’an than in other cities in China. In Xian, a city of 13 million people, more than 1,600 people have been admitted for treatment due to corona infection since December 9. Strict restrictions have been imposed in the city to increase the number of victims day by day.

The Chinese government has imposed a 12-day lockdown on its “zero COVID” policy. Accordingly, the people of Xi’an city have been barred from coming out and locked inside their homes. Xian people have started posting on their websites that there is a shortage of food and they need help as people are not allowed to go out even to buy food. The mothers also complained that they could not get easy access to medical services. The controversy was sparked by a video released a few days ago in which Chinese officials attacked a man who had left home to buy food in violation of government regulations.

The 12-day lockdown is in line with the ‘Zero Covit’ policy of controlling corona damage ahead of the upcoming Chinese New Year and the upcoming Winter Olympics in the country. Reports from Wuhan say that the Chinese people consider this 12-day restriction to be the most strict lock-down after the corona spread from Wuhan in 2020. People are also said to be frustrated with the Chinese government, as the restrictions came into effect before January 1.

Meanwhile, the government is taking people with signs of corona infection in Xi’an for isolation at midnight. In particular, the Mingde 8 Yingli residential area south of Xi’an City has taken people to a solitary confinement camp at midnight on New Year’s Day. No details have been released on how many people were taken to the camp so far. But at midnight that day alone, 30 buses from the residential area were taken to the isolation camp. A person in the area told the English media that the number would be more than 1000. This includes children and pregnant women, he said.
