Ten people died in the crash, the Russian state news agency Tass reported on Wednesday. Citing the flight authority, it was said that the head of the Russian mercenary group Wagner, Yevgeny Prigozhin, was on the passenger list.
The Embraer machine on a flight from Moscow to St. Petersburg went down in the Tver region north of the capital, the agency reported on Wednesday, citing the Ministry of Civil Protection. On board were seven passengers and three crew members.
According to Prigozhin, the Wagner mercenary group was founded in 2014. In June he had called on his fighters to march on Moscow because the Russian military leadership had allegedly ordered an attack on Wagner mercenaries.
He quickly broke off the uprising and agreed to go into exile in Belarus with his fighters. In return, they should not be prosecuted.
