BERLIN, September 11 (DPA/EP) –

The Government of Germany has acknowledged that the Moroccan authorities have not yet responded to the offer of aid provided as a result of the earthquake that shook the High Atlas area on Friday night, after Rabat has only accepted assistance from four countries , among them Spain.

On Saturday, Berlin already offered to send rescue specialists and dogs. This Monday, a spokesman for the German Ministry of the Interior, Maximilian Kall, has put a water treatment plant on the table, in case Rabat is willing to receive it.

“Until now, they have not accepted offers of assistance,” said a spokesman for the German Foreign Ministry, who has avoided talking about a political background in this case. “It can be ruled out in our case,” he added, emphasizing that bilateral relations are now good, after disagreements over Western Sahara led to tensions in 2021.

The Government of Morocco has only authorized aid from Spain, the United Kingdom, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates and has argued that opening the door to more countries could lead to communication problems and, therefore, be counterproductive.
