The Ministry of Culture has awarded the Catalan artist Teresa Lanceta with the 2023 National Plastic Arts Award for her “artistic practice sustained over time that rescues a feminine, vernacular and collective language”, according to the jury. “Awarding Teresa Lanceta is recognizing a generation of women, in the knitting technique as a language, a primitive code of humanity away from patriarchy through which he has come into contact with the cultures of various groups such as the Romani population, the Moroccan nomadic weavers or the residents of the Raval,” he adds. The award is endowed with 30,000 euros.

Lanceta, born in 1951, has a degree in History from the University of Barcelona and a doctorate in Art History from the Complutense University of Madrid. She has been a teacher at the School of Architecture in Alicante and the Massana School in Barcelona His artistic work is centered on the use of textiles as a form of expression.

His works have participated in exhibitions organized by Spanish and international institutions such as the MACBA, the IVAM, the MUSAT, the Spanish Academy in Rome, the 57th Venice Biennale, the 11th Cairo Biennale or the Reina Sofia Art Center National Museum. In his biography he explains that his first piece was exhibited in 1977 at the Fontana d’Or in Girona in the collective exhibition “The tapestry in Catalonia of the 20th century”
