The two euros per liter mark for fuels has become a national line of defense that concerns consumers, politicians and manufacturers. TotalEnergies has committed to capping prices at 1.99 in its 3,400 service stations “as long as prices remain high” according to the terms of the oil company. Fabien Roussel, the national secretary of the Communist Party, calls on the French to “invade gas stations, supermarkets, prefectures” (sic). And the government is urging gasoline and diesel distributors to sell at a loss.
