Intel Confirms Meteor Lake CPUs for Desktop PCs in 2024

Intel has officially confirmed that Meteor Lake CPUs will be coming to desktop PCs in 2024, putting to rest the rumors and leaks that suggested the CPU family had been canceled. The confirmation was made by Michelle Johnston Holthaus, Intel’s Executive Vice President and general manager of the Client Computing Group, in an interview with PCWorld.

The interview transcript revealed that Intel is committed to having one processor family that covers both mobile and desktop segments. This news is significant as it indicates that Intel will have a unified CPU platform for all its products.

The first-generation Core Ultra Meteor Lake CPUs are set to launch on mobile platforms starting December 14th. This suggests that the unveiling of the desktop parts will likely take place at CES 2024, which is less than a month away from the mobile launch.

While previous rumors suggested that Meteor Lake CPUs would come in 6+8 configurations, it remains to be seen if those plans have changed. However, it is clear that these CPUs will be the successor to Intel’s 14th Gen and will be using the LGA 1700 socket, codenamed Raptor Lake Refresh.

These updates include new P-Core (Redwood Cove) and new E-Core (Crestmont) architectures, as well as new Arc Xe-LPG graphics.
