Albert Serra plans to release his own next year first documentary, ‘Tardes de soledad’, in which he addresses “the human element” in bullfighting and the mental and spiritual states that bullfighters go through. In an interview with ACN, he admits that he is “fascinated” by the “commitment” of the bullfighters to a practice that he sees as becoming less and less popular. “The phenomenon is worth it observed in a different way to how we do it now”, he specifies. The filmmaker has participated in the ‘Conversaciones’ cycle of the Sant Sebastià Film Festival.

Following the process that he believes derives from a documentary, he has shot a lot and for a long time to put himself at the service of the subject without a prioriism. “Your vision and personality must be set aside and what you do is put yourself at the service of the case and see what it gives”, he says.

At the same time, Serra recognizes that I have not assumed the topic “any ethical debate” because he understands both bullfighters and anti-bullfighters: “You should do what the people decide, violence is everywhere and you can’t reduce everything to an elementary dichotomy,” he says. The filming of the tape extended for a year and a half and, unlike what he had done so far, he does not rule out finishing the assembly and re-shooting new images for the same tape.

The filmmaker, also from Banyó, has started the section ‘Conversaciones, pensamientos y debates’, where part of his filmography has been reviewed, starting with ‘History of my death’, ‘The death of Lluís XIV’, ‘Pacifiction’ and the distinctions he has received – Golden Leopard and the Cannes Jury Prize.
