In October 2022, it will be one year now, the writer Irene Solà accepted the proposal of the pharmaceutical entrepreneur and cultural patron Sergi Ferrer-Salat to retreat for a month in a house located in the idyllic surroundings of Cala Senià de Palamós. The aim, as Ferrer-Salat himself detailed yesterday during a press conference, is for the Finestres Literary Residence to become “a point of reference around the world”. For the pilot test, the project has also hosted already Bethlehem Lopez Peiro, Angela Segovia, Leila Guerriero, Paul Guasch or Gabriel Ventura.
The Argentinian writer and journalist Mariana Enriquezthe British singer and poet Kae Tempestthe Scottish poet Robin Robertson and Catalan Irene Pujadas they will be the first tenants of a residence that expects to host more than forty authors each year, given that the residence will remain closed in August. Each month there will be three authors in residence in the main building – which consists of three floors, a kitchen, a living room and a library – and a fourth who will stay in a more isolated hut located in the lower part of farm and where the Wi-Fi signal does not reach. The selection of the tenants of the residence will be made through an open call for novels, short stories and poetry, through the Foundation’s prize and scholarship programs or through a direct invitation.
By the director of the residence, Nicolás G. Botero, this project “wants to be like a blank page for the authors who stay there”, given that “all the people who come will nourish the history of the residence through their experiences”. For this, one of the conditions for staying there will be to write “a few pages of your personal diary” so that the Foundation can publish a report at the end of the year. Botero takes over the direction of the project after passing through the Santa Maddalena Foundation Literary Residence in Italywhere he served as curator until 2020.

The Finestres Literary Residence is born with the aim of taking root strongly in the territory. For this reason, as indicated by the mayor of Palamós, Luis Puig, its council will be “an active collaborator” making the municipal facilities available to the project. Also, Puig remarked that he wants the authors to be able to get to know the gastronomy and the cultural attractions of the town.
Chef Ariadna Julián she will be in charge of designing the menus for the tenants of the residence. Some dishes that will be made with local or local organic products, prepared in a healthy and balanced way. In this way, the residents “will enjoy a unique gastronomic bet, with the aim that they only have to worry about writing and being inspired in this environment” as explained by the foundation promoting the project.
The Fundació Finestres project is located in a building erected in the 1930s by Nicolai Woevodsky i Dorothy Webster, the marriage that also built the gardens of Cap Roig de Calella de Palafrugell. In the estate where Casa Sènia is located, which was acquired in 1973 by the Ferrer-Salat family, the American writer Truman Capote stayed there in the early 60s, who accompanied by his partner, Jack Dunphy, completed the novel In Cold Blood.
A bookstore in the old La Gavina
The residence is the first of two projects that the Fundació Finestres will start in the municipality of Baix Empordà. the second, as reported by Diari de Girona last Augustwill be the opening of a bookstore that it will be located in the old premises of the La Gavina bookstore, on Carrer Major de Palamós. It is planned that the establishment, which will occupy two of the four floors of the building and will have an area of about 60 square meters, will open its doors from the spring of 2024.
