The General Assembly of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) voted to suspend the membership of the Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC) in the organization, should from a press release.
“The membership of the Russian Paralympic Committee was partially suspended by the IPC General Assembly <...> for violating the constitutional obligations of membership,” the IPC says on its website.
It is clarified that the General Assembly voted 90 votes to 56 to suspend the membership of the Russian committee, six members abstained. The membership rights of the Russian Federation are suspended for two years, with the exception of cases of neutral performance in competitions.
In the fall of 2022, the committee also suspended Russia’s membership. Then 64 delegates voted for the suspension of membership, 39 voted against, and another 16 abstained. This decision was due to the alleged failure of the RPC to fulfill its membership obligations in accordance with the charter of the international committee. The RKR has already filed an appeal against the decision of the General Assembly, which was granted.
At the same time, the IPC suspended the membership of the Russian organization even before the start of the special operation in Ukraine. In August 2016, such a decision was made due to the alleged substitution of doping tests at the Winter Paralympic Games in Sochi.
