Newly Discovered Star Brightens 50 Times

by time news

Discovered in the constellation Cassiopeia by a Japanese astronomer, the star N Cas 2021 became 50 times brighter in just two months, NHK reports.

Japanese Yuji Nakamura discovered the star in March of this year, and by the beginning of May its brightness had increased so much that it can now be seen without a telescope. This phenomenon is unusual because stars rarely become so dramatically bright within just a few months.

Now the object has become one of the brightest stars in the Northern Hemisphere of the sky. The National Astronomical Observatory of Japan conducted an analysis that suggested that an explosion occurred on the surface of the celestial body.

The channel noted that scientists annually find less than 20 new stars and most of them darken after becoming brighter for several days.
