JAKARTA – The pair Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD will compete in the 2024 presidential election. Support for Ganjar and Mahfud is pouring in, including from Islamic boarding school circles.

Presidential Candidate (Capres) Ganjar Pranowo and Vice Presidential Candidate (Cawapres) Mahfud MD have carried out medical tests at the Gatot Soebroto RSPAD on Sunday, October 22 2023. This health test coincides with the commemoration of Santri Day.

PPP Secretary General Arwani Thomafi revealed that the choice of Mahfud MD as Ganjar’s vice presidential candidate was a beautiful gift for the students. Mahfud is considered a genuine santri figure and has a large background in the santri environment.

“The appointment of Mr. Mahfud MD as Ganjar Pranowo’s vice presidential candidate is a beautiful gift on Santri Day for Indonesian students. An intelligent and professional student will become vice presidential candidate and God willing, he will be elected in the upcoming 2024 presidential election,” said Arwani.

He also said that the appointment of Mahfud MD as Ganjar Pranowo’s vice presidential candidate could be an inspiration for all other Islamic students in Indonesia to be diligent and serious in the field they are involved in professionally and with integrity.

The Ganjar-Mahfud pair is considered popular among students. This is the support from students in various regions in Indonesia:

1. East Java

In East Java (Jatim), it received great support from the Nusantara Santri Association (Hisnu). They will continue to move in society so that the electability of presidential candidate Ganjar Pranowo in the East Java Province region exceeds 65 percent.

“I am optimistic that the majority of voters from Islamic boarding school groups and Nahdliyin residents will go to Ganjar,” said National Coordinator Hisnu Yusuf Hidayat in his statement in Surabaya, Monday, October 2 2023.
