The Hong Kong company Smart International Distribution Limited (SIDL) intends to achieve the abolition of legal protection of the brand of the Chinese computer equipment manufacturer Lenovo in Russia, as follows from the file of arbitration cases (CAD). The Court of Intellectual Rights (CIP) has so far prohibited Rospatent, until the dispute with Lenovo (Beijing) Limited, from taking actions with SIDL’s application to register its own trademark, as indicated in the CIP’s ruling on taking preliminary interim measures, published in the CAD on October 18. The trademark, registered by a Hong Kong company, resembles the Lenovo logo, which is a black lettering on a white background.
Chinese Lenovo is known as a manufacturer of computer equipment – laptops, tablets and phones. In the spring of 2022, sales of Lenovo laptops in Russia became unavailable. But in December 2022, sales of laptops resumed in the Lenovo branded online store, Izvestia wrote. However, according to distributors, now the brand’s equipment is supplied only through parallel imports.
