Between Aboubacar Soumah and certain members of the Free Union of Teachers and Researchers of Guinea, war is declared. The chalk eaters accuse the current troublesome secretary of the SLECG of wanting to keep the head of the movement for life. The latter suspects them of being manipulated.

At SLECG, nerves are currently on edge. The cause is a misunderstanding between Aboubacar Soumah, the all-powerful khalif of SLECG and some of his lieutenants. In the background, the reunification of the two factions of the SLECG and the congress to renew the governing bodies whose mandate ends next December. Members of the current executive office would not only like us to hurry up the steps to set up the new office. They would also seek to push Aboubacar Soumah out to replace him with Kadiatou Bah, boss of the other faction.

On November 1, around twenty chalk eaters forced the doors of the SLECG headquarters in Donka to read a declaration announcing a congress on November 14 and 15, with or without Aboubacar Soumah. Except that the latter doesn’t want to let himself be walked on. He accuses the camp led by Adrien Gbamy, his former head of Com, of acting in silence on behalf of a “manipulated small group” to exclude it from the SLECG: “In the declaration which was made, there is no only two members of the executive office. This group should not speak on behalf of executive board members and teachers. This statement makes me neither hot nor cold. It is null and void.”

The rebels accuse Soumah of licking the boots of Guillaume Hawing, Minister of Pre-university Education and Literacy. They now take him for the one who prevents the chalk eaters from fighting with the MEPUA. Aboubacar Soumah denies: “They are agitated because, according to them, it has been two years since I organized an education strike. They accuse me of being the main advisor to the Minister of Education. But the union is not just the strike. We are not going on strike because the department finds the solution to our concerns. We cannot go on strike just for the sake of going on strike.”

As for his retirement which has become an argument for his detractors, Aboubacar Soumah believes that nothing prevents him from running for the position of embarrassing secretary of the SLECG: “A special law was created against me by Alpha Condé. All of Guinea knows about this. But Guinea has ratified conventions, we are a member of the International Labor Organization which does not mention such a special law. He refutes the accusation that he would not want to hear about a congress: “The offices of the prefectures and municipalities have expired. They must be renewed before organizing the congress…We are preparing to renew them. Teachers do not contribute, money is needed to organize the congress. We are in the process of mobilizing resources from our partners.”

Before this crisis came to light, the two SLECG factions had promised to work towards reunification. The two parties were studying the possibility of organizing a congress together. This idea did not prosper. Aboubacar Soumah accuses Adrien Gbamy and his troupe of actually being against reunification: “They themselves are against it. We once held a meeting in the executive office to talk about lifting the sanctions imposed on the 8 members of the national executive office and members of the USTG. We have decided to forgive all the excluded comrades. This frustrated the group who made the statement because they had replaced those who were forgiven. In the meeting, they told us that they can accept everything except forgiveness to those who had been excluded. That’s why they came up with this plan to react against us. They themselves are not ready for unification. The way things are going, we may be heading towards a three-headed SLECG.
