After six years of closure, the Maritime Museum, Place du Trocadéro, reopens in Paris. The key pieces, notably a three-masted ship, have been restored. Reporting.

It’s the return of one of the icons of the National Maritime Museum: 1.90 meters high and 380 kilos of steel. The Carmagnolle diving suit is a prototype invented in the 19th century to descend more than 60 meters under the sea. It was never used for waterproof reasons. Its power of fascination remains intact today. “It is an incredible work, which arouses dreams, astonishment, a slightly futuristic work and at the same time very technical“, explains Lise Bret, the collections manager at the museum.

Six years of work

The Maritime Museum has been the legendary meeting place for young and old since the post-war period. The collections installed near the Trocadéro in Paris needed a new showcase. For six years, the work and restorations have continued, until the moment, sometimes very spectacular, of the return of the works. Among them, an 18th century three-masted ship, completely restored.
