One month before Christmas, it’s time to take a look at your children’s room. Or more precisely in their toy box. You will surely find figurines, dolls, board games and other cars that they haven’t played with for months. But these objects still have value! The numbers speak for themselves.

Each year, 157,000 tonnes of toys are sold in France, according to the Ecological Transition Agency, of which 90% were imported. Worse still: 70% are no longer used eight months after their purchase, and two thirds are… thrown away. A scourge for the planet as plastic and other electronic components dominate in these products.

Rather than letting them sleep in a cupboard or sending them to the trash, these toys can be used by others. You can of course donate them to charities. Or choose to sell them on sites specializing in second hand goods, such as Leboncoin or Beebs. From now on, you can also go to a King Cadeau store or a JouéClub to offer them for sale.

The average recovery amount is 16 euros

These two specialist brands will take them back from you provided they are clean, in good condition and complete. At JouéClub, the service, called TrocOJoué, has been available since April in 130 stores in the network (out of a total of 284). “We take back all toys, including those that were not purchased from us. Are simply excluded, for a question of hygiene or guarantee, cuddly toys, stuffed animals but also radio-controlled toys, tablets, creative leisure items such as modeling clay or even puzzles of more than 100 pieces,” explains Franck. Mathais, spokesperson for the brand. Once verified and appraised, the product is refunded 15 to 30% of its new price, in the form of a voucher valid for one year. The average recovery amount is 16 euros.

At Kingtoy, this service has been in place for a year in around ten stores, including six under the King Okaz brand, specializing in second-hand goods. The trade-in conditions are almost the same as the competitor, with a buy-back price set at 25%, also in the form of a voucher. “What we get the most are board games, puzzles, early childhood toys, figurines, dolls and even Lego,” explains Patrick Jocteur Monrozier, director of customer and store divisions.

The Cultura brand launched into this niche this year. “This allows us both to reduce our carbon footprint but also to meet new expectations from our customers for a more eco-responsible mode of consumption, while offering them purchasing power,” explains Émilie Tertian, director of innovation and circular consumption. . The brand buys “large” board games from you for 3 euros (the size of the box must be larger than A4), 1.25 euros for small ones, and 50 cents for puzzles of less than 100 pieces. Note that it is also possible to sell books, sheet music and vinyls. “Our goal is to have enough volume to be able to market these second-hand products in all of our stores. Today, only nine do it,” she continues.

5 euros if you drop them off at recycling kiosks

At Kingtoy and JouéClub too, toys purchased from individuals are put on the shelves, either in a dedicated space or among other objects, and offered at half the price of new at the former and with 40 to 70% off. reduction for the second. A virtuous circle therefore: selling your old toys to buy new ones but second hand.

The model is not yet fully developed: “90% of the vouchers issued are used to acquire new toys,” points out Patrick Jocteur Monrozier. “For Christmas and birthdays, children know what they want, and these are often new things,” confirms Franck Mathais. The opportunity works especially for pleasure purchases. »

Finally, if the toys you found in your child’s room are broken or incomplete, you can drop them off at one of the recycling kiosks present in the car parks of six Carrefour hypermarkets (Athis-Mons, Angoulins, Évreux, Laval, Nice Lingostière and Vaulx-en-Velin). For a toy placed in one of these kiosks (regardless of the brand and condition of the toy), a voucher of 5 euros is offered, valid on all Hasbro brands (Nerf, Play-Doh, Hasbro Gaming, etc.) for a purchase of a minimum amount of 20 euros.
